About darija.love
No one taught the Darija we actually speak. So I built the place that does.

I'm Wissal — founder of darija.love. This is the story of why.
The story
I grew up between languages. French at school, Arabic in textbooks, and Darija — the real one — everywhere it actually matters: at home, in the kitchen, at my grandmother's table, on the phone with family, in the back of taxis in Casablanca.
When friends and partners of Moroccans asked me how to learn Darija, I had no good answer. Every textbook I pointed them to taught Modern Standard Arabic — a language no one uses in daily life. Every app was built for tourists memorizing phrases, not for people who wanted to actually be understood. Every class I'd heard of treated Darija as a dialect to mention in footnotes, not a living language spoken by 37 million people.
I watched people I love give up. Moroccans in the diaspora who couldn't talk to their own grandparents. Partners who sat silent at Sunday lunches. Travelers who left Morocco loving the country but unable to thank anyone in their language.
So I built darija.love. Every word, every lesson, every conversation in this app comes from that frustration turned into something I could offer back. Not textbook Arabic — the Darija your mother-in-law uses when she's teasing you, the Darija your best friend texts you at midnight, the Darija you whisper to the people you love.
The mission
If this app helps one person say 'I love you' to their grandmother in the language she raised them in, it was worth building.

What makes darija.love different
Real Darija, not textbook Arabic
Every phrase is the one Moroccans actually use — with their families, their friends, in real conversations. Not a sanitized MSA version.
